Make my Cruze more reliable kit
Ok so this kit is something I was thinking about for a long time. I wanted to bring something to the community that was a one stop shop for the 2016.5-2019 gen 2 CRUZE. This one I hope is easy to follow but I will explain a few things. The gen 2 Cruze has a few issues from the factory that are common problems that require upgrades to fix.
Air Filter: Let's start with the air filter. Most people wait way too long to change these. When that happens you start getting a series of p1101, p0101, and P0420 codes in your ECM. When you have a clogged air filter things can get weird with the engine.
Wastegate: P0299! this code is so common that people have it active for years in the CRUZE ECM. The OEM wastegate is faulty from the factory. The wastegate is basically the brain of your turbocharger. When it gets weak so does the turbo. I added the Super Cruzes performance wastegate to this kit because it was designed to fix the OEM wastegate issue. The Super Cruzes wastegate has a lifetime warranty and features a full metal design with maintenance free internals. Oh and you can choose custom colors. When ordering pick if your car has a tune or no tune.
Charge pipe upgrade: This is another super common problem that the gen 2 Cruze is plagued with. I get contacted weekly with messages about a charge pipe that has broken open or was damaged by the A/C compressor pulley. For starters if it was damaged by the A/C compressor pulley check to make sure your intercooler has not fallen out of place because of an accident or a hard hit (pot hole). Also over time this same OEM pipe falls apart and become brittle due to its construction and oil saturation. Don't worry I have a kit that files the oil problem we will get to that next.
PCV re-route with catch canister: This kit fixes a lot of things for such a simple kit. All of these re-route kits come preassembled. You can also choose custom things to be added to the top of the canister. When ordering just write in what you want in the custom box below the options. The reroute fixes a PCV issue with the engine. This issue causes gargling noises inside the intake. This is loud and annoying. The other thing this kit does is fix a ton of oil problems. The gen 2 PCV system is better then the gen 1 but it is still flawed. The PCV system pushes a ton of oil through the turbocharger into the intercooler system and causes intake, spark plug, diverter, wastegate, throttle body, and performance issues. This re-route kit takes all of the hoses that are sent to the inlet of the turbo and re-routes them through the canister. This fixes the gargling noise, catches the oil, and helps take a load off of the intake system which increases performance.
Performance diverter: Ok let's talk diverters. What is it? What does it do? Easiest way to explain what a diverter does is this. It's basically the gen 2 Cruze OEM blow off valve. It opens when you remove your foot from the gas pedal. When you do that the boost pressure has to go somewhere or you will damage the engine. The diverter opens up then shoots that air back into the inlet of the turbo. It is common for these to go bad on the gen 2 cruze. Over time they get sticky and bind up. This diverter will replace the part of your OEM diverter that is known to have problems. When you combine the diverter and wastegate together you car has to ability to make more HP because you can increase your boost even on a stock engine. This will make your car feel more responsive.
Spark plugs and Coils: This part of the kit is just as important as everything else. Spark plugs should be changed about every 30,000 miles. Most times a manual will say 2 to even 3 times more than that between changes. That is incorrect. While a spark plug could last 100,000 miles they are not designed to deal with crappy fuel, moisture, heat, oil gunk, bad AFR, and an engine basically being beat on. A manual is a guideline not a rule set in stone. Most of the time when I diagnose a car I ask people to check the spark plugs. Most of the time I see things like mismatched plug gaps and really dirty plugs. If you are planning on buying this kit because you are trying to stop your car from running like crap or trying to fix a P0420 code you should also change your spark plug coils so I added those too.
